Care UK, one of the UK’s leading independent providers of health and social care services, is inviting people in Hampton Hill and surrounding areas to find out more about dementia on Tuesday 12th May at its Laurel Dene care home.
From 2.00pm to 5pm, Neil Mapes, dementia specialist at Dementia Adventure, will lead the free event at the care home to share his knowledge and provide practical guidance for those caring for someone living with dementia. Neil will be looking at the realities of dementia, offering advice on coping mechanisms for family carers and giving a feel for what it might be like to live with the condition.
After the event, Neil will be on hand to answer any questions and there will also be an opportunity for members of the public to meet the carers at Laurel Dene and tour the home.
Kathy Harman, home manager at Laurel Dene, said: “With dementia affecting 850,000 people in the UK and a startling 25 million people having a close friend or family member living with the condition, there is a real and pressing need to open up access to professional support and information, and to ensure there are places people can go where they can share individual experiences.
“By hosting a free event on the subject, we can provide people in Hampton and surrounding areas with expert advice and give them a chance to find out more about dementia services in the area.”
Those who attend the open day will also be able to pick up a copy of Care UK’s Good to Go – a free guide which highlights how important it is for those living with dementia – and their carers – to get out and about, and the emotional and physical benefits of staying active. Good to Go is also available to download at www.careuk.com/goodtogo.
Situated on Hampton Road in Hampton Hill, Laurel Dene has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full time residential nursing and dementia care.
