Bringing People Together
Quartet Pro Musica was formed in 1955, when the quartet’s original players, all former students at the Royal Academy of Music, were Patrick Halling, his brother, the cellist Peter Halling, Roger Raphael & Peter Sermon. Michael Tippett coached the quartet in these early days. In 1957-8, Ernest Scott and Gwynne Edwards joined, & it was during the ensuing period that the quartet were involved in many highly acclaimed recordings for the BBC.
The current quartet, Patrick Halling, Keith Lewis, Richard Cookson & Myrtle Bruce-Mitford continue to play a wide repertoire, with particular emphasis on English music as well as contemporary composers.
Our next concert is on Saturday 24th August at Garrick’s Temple by the banks of the Thames at Hampton. The programme inludes works by Mozart, Debussy, Percy Grainger and local composer Tony Kinsey. Admission is free. Interval wine and canapes will be served. Call 0208 979 5707 or 07878 474870 for further information.
