Hello all, hope you are all doing well and enjoying this beautiful weekend.

After reviewing the discussion about Cafe Plenty, with all the positive comments and as one of you mentioned another good place to eat, it came to my attention that the "Cafe Plenty Discussion" has to move on and should be renamed GREAT PLACES TO EAT OUT as we are so lucky to live in a community which offers such a variety of eateries! I am French, I love my food and I am sure I ain't the only one here!! ....    come on, I know who you are ;-)

So, after the positive comments about Plenty and her owner Tanya, where you can find daily freshly cooked dishes, using high quality local produce- helping the local economy. Help Cafe Plenty to help the community!

Then, came along Taste and its great breakfast. I must say I have only been there a couple of times, and I can say I have never been disappointed either. I am sorry I don't know the name of the owner(s), if anyone knows them, please send them my regards! Nice and friendly owners, good food, what else can you ask for....

The latest place I went no later than today was not in Hampton Village but in Hampton Court - what I like to call it the "Greater Hampton" well London has its own, why not Hampton... Anyway the place is a small family French bistrot called "Le Petit Nantais".

I went with my friend for the first time today. The rabbit looks beautiful and my supreme de poulet au bleu (chicken breast with Blue cheese sauce) was so nice and tasty! Followed by a well garnished cheese platter. To finish, profiterolles and mousse au chocolat pour moi -i like the "no butter.no cream". I felt so much better and less guilty LOL

Without forgetting the professionalism and friendliness of the bilingual staff, very attentive. They made us feel welcomed minutes we stepped in to their establishment.

Anyway, I love the friendly atmosphere and the great food at Le Petit Nantais, et je reviendrai tres bientot, c'est sur!
I would recommend it to all!!

On this note, I look forward to hearing other places's feedback!!

I've not had an issue with any of the places I've eaten at in Hampton (There's maybe one or two I haven't visited yet).

Helen and Mark at Taste do a great job, I've had lunch from there countless times and have never been disappointed. The food is always fresh and fantastic, and the chit chat whilst they're preparing it for you is always nice and friendly. The fact that it's usually busy in there every time I go is just testament to the good job they do.

Steve and the rest of the team at the cheese and wine company also do a great job for lunches (don't forget, they're more than just a cheese shop) - I've had a few doorstop sandwiches from there which are always good and the staff happy to make recommendations as to cheese and chutney combinations. I believe he has recently been giving planning consent to serve hot food, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes.

The railway bell pub, you typical pub style menu, but they've not disappointed me yet. Food has been hot and fresh every time. Also a good selection of ales which change on a regular basis. The staff are usually pretty chirpy too and have time for a chat.

Monaf's - Great Indian food, probably one of the best Indian meals I've had for a while. Always feel welcome when I've been in there,

The Bell Inn, near the Church on the river has a particularly large range of deep-fried food for all occasions.

The World's End Pub on Station Road has a clientele that lloks like it has just escaped from the Benidorm set.

Thanks Paul for your great comments about other good places to eat out!

The Railway Belle pub has the best quality of microwaved meals-for-one in the area.......

Nigel you really seem to get around and your comments are truly helpful. I thank you for your input and advice

For cheese and wine lovers, I would highly recommend The Cheese and Wine Company. Great selection of .. oh yes... CHEESES AND WINES from all over the world!!! from mild to strong, you will find your happiness.

Imagine, on a Sunday afternoon, sharing a cheese plater, a glass (or two,...) of wine al fresco soaking up the sun.... enjoy!!

What an exit from  The Railway Bell!
I need to tell you  all the experience I had in a local pub last night.
After a nice meal at  Cafe Plenty, our party of six made our way for a last drink at the Railway Bell.  Sitting outside as the evening was nice and warm...almost felt like a summer  night.... Anyway, just after 11pm, a friend was singing -by singing I mean  normal voice, no shouting or scream- a chorus of a song when the owner (I  guess...) came out and said word for word: "WE TOLD YOU TO DRINK UP AND  LEAVE!!!" We were so shocked by his words that we finished our drinks and left  very disappointed.... for the record, he never came and warn  us....

Is it a way to treat  customers, including locals? Does he earn that much money that he thinks he can  say anything to anybody?
Is it real customer  service and does it really help the community to get together?
Has he had a bad  day? If so, everybody has ups and downs, but I wouldn't take it on people,  moreover to customers, moreover to local people!!!

I felt so ashamed  firstly because I took some friends who live outside the London area, and told  them how nice that pub was, and secondly I felt like a kid who got told off for  no reason!

I am a proud citizen  of Hampton Village and would do anything to help and support the community  but getting that kind of reaction from a pub landlord, I would  certainly not going back and spend my money there!!
One less Christmas  card this year!!
I always try to be positive here but I felt I had to express my opinion on that matter...

Not disputing the events, but before coming on a public forum and speaking negatively about any business/establishment, please get your facts in order first.

Kirstan is the LANDLADY, so whoever you dealt with was not the landlord....

So the chap you mention probably doesn't 'earn enough money he can say anything to anybody'. Also, keeping facts in check, 84% of landlords earn below 15k, so your hardly likely to meet one who 'earns too much'......why do you think so many pubs are closing?

May I also suggest that you speak to Kirstan (face to face) and tell her about your experience. She's absolutely lovely and will listen, and then she'll act if appropriate. I'm sure the owners of Cafe Plenty would be mortified if their place was torn to shreds on a local forum due to a rude waiter/waitress?, do you think the Railway Bell is any different? What would you do if you had rude service at your beloved Cafe Plenty? Speak to the owners or come on here?

Anyway, speak to Kirstan, she'll be upset if what you say is true.

Regards

Martyn

P.s I often use Cafe Plenty and the Railway Bell

For your information, people have put positive and negative comments on public forums in the past and they will continue to do so. It's human nature! Country of free speech, right? Please freel free to check the whole discussion.

I may talk to the landly as you so suggested, and I know for sure what happened it is the truth.

I am so glad you often use Cafe Plenty. Please be reassured that, if I have a bad experience at Cafe Plenty, food or service, the owner would know it straightaway.  my "beloved Cafe Plenty" as you so mentioned is one of the many places in Hampton I visit on regular basis.

If you got told "We told you to drink up and leave" you would be more likely annoyed of the situation, wouldn't you? ...

Regards,

Fabien

Sorry I forgot to say, would you mind coming back on here and letting us know what Kirstan said?

That seem fair?

Cheers

Martyn

There is free speech and there is slander, I think you're crossing the line with statements as the landlord (who is in fact a landlady), told you to get out, earns too much etc. There is no need for that, but its also totally false. Thats a lot different to saying the food, service or building were below par. See what I mean?

I'm not excusing being told to leave, that is wrong, but don't jump to conclusions and then come on here and spread rumours (landlord told us to go etc).

Let us know what she says, if haven't heard anything within a week or so I'll mention it for you and report back.

All the best mate

Well, you may be right, I shouldn't have written what I wrote, but I felt cheated, upset, disappointed and all other words you can think of last night. I am not here to spread rumours. I just expressed my point of view on a bad experience. I didn't see you commenting on other people's negative comments when they talked about other places in Hampton, but you reacted on my comment. I am not here to fight but you attacked me. I learnt a lot tonight, first of all because I put my very first bad comment on here, please feel free to check you won't find anymore. I am usually very positive and have 100's ideas to get the community together via the site.  Secondly, I will not put anymore comments on here. My comment seemed to be so powerful compared to the bad review of another local pub made few months by another member. Therefore, I decided not to post any comment anymore, good or bad. As I said above, I am not here to fight or spread rumours. I will keep my opinion for myself from now on.

Regards,
