I was so excited to see the first bit of the new Hampton Square opened yesterday. I'm not quite sure if we'll fit the market on this weekend while the fountain is going, but the plants look lovely and the sun is shining in it today. Looking forward to the rest of it being finished. What do you all think?

I think it is rather nice and I hope the rest turns out to be too. However, the paving slabs don't seem to be very level, and I wonder if that could be improved before it is finalised.

being the large child i like the water feature!

But i've not been since last week. But I go most weeks for work.

I agree with you Trevor, it does all look very nice but I too have concerns over the paving, especially on the area outside the fencing where you can walk between the site fence and Sainsbury's round towards the chemist, the slabs have already moved and are uneven and are trip hazards and this is only after a few weeks of public use. I did voice my concerns on how the slabs were being laid on the Did you/do you live in Hampton FB page, I hope the council will have the slabs that are uneven re-laid before signing off the work. Other than the slabs the work has really opened up the square and made it a light and welcoming place.

I have passed these concerns directly to the site manager.

SO.... The square will be handed over and ALMOST finished by Sunday's Hampton Market. It will be usable for us and then the finishing touches will be done next week. If anyone has thoughts, queries or concerns or even NICE THINGS to say to the hard working landscapers and design team, they can let the market team know on Sunday and all the information will be passed on.

It seems that some effort has been made to level the slabs successfully. However, I have heard from some quarters that there is concern that the paving could be slippery when wet. It's rained plenty recently, so has anyone had a problem?
I have crossed the square many times in the rain and not found it slippery at all. The fountain will be switched off at the end of October, however, as there was some concern about it creating slippery ice puddles. The slab levelling has been checked this week, bins and bollards set in, a new notice board saying Hampton Sqaure, not Hampton North..... And big plans are processing fast for the Grand Opening Celebrations onOctober 13th showcasing all that the Square has to offer....which is much more than you'd think!!!

That's good news. I have a feeling that it is the look of the slabs when wet which puts people off. They actually seem to have a good roughened surface when I walked over them today. Let's hope we're right!
