At about 12:30 BST today 11 September 2016, a helicopter made several parallel passes across NPL and surrounding populated areas. It was not a police helicopter, and it was not following the designated helicopter airway across Bushy Park. The type was an AS.350 Ecureuil (Squirrel), with extended spray bars, which would normally be retracted for non-spraying flights. I have seen similar events in previous years, and assumed then that pilots were off-course or on a positioning flight. No emitted spray was seen today, but ultra low volume insecticide spraying can be difficult to spot at a distance. So, does anyone know what was going on - anti-mosquito operations, air quality sampling, or what ?

wow, liz. really insightful response :-)

It flew over me today, and not on a flight path like the other helicopters, seemed harmless but very noisy which as a new thing over us we could do without

By the way, a stupidly addictive website: https://www.flightradar24.com/51.45,-0.4/13

It only includes some of the helicopters around, but it's brilliant if you want to know where that noisy plane is going!

I see what you mean. I watched a flight turn this way, thought "oh that one is coming right over Hampton" and then heard the sound of it overhead. On the one hand, not surprising at all. On the other, absolutely amazing :-)
