I know this is not possible and only a pipe dream, but I would love to be able to find the Bathroom Shop and Curves other suitable locations in Hampton and then bring back the Palaceum Cinema. It would be (in my dream) an art house cinema with a bar and a little restaurant. There would be events during the day as well as the evening and it would become a social hub. So calling all philanthropic multi millionaires out there...

Now back to the real world!

Hello Amanda, a great idea. I remember being in the cinema in the early forties with my sister and my mum. The film was 'The Drum' staring Sabu (The Elephant Boy). The story was about the British Raj in India. Half way through the film the 'Air Raid Siren' which was situated on the roof of the Police Station sounded, it was deafening. It took all of one minute for the cinema to empty. Happy days, does anybody else in Hampton remember going to the' Palaceum'? Regards. Bryan.

Well said Amanda. A prime example is what the people of Barnes did where we came here fromm. They each bought shares of 5k and it is now a wonderful place. Every major album you can think of was made there but it was in essense a cinema check kt out online. Cant remember the name at the mo tho!

It could be a lovely safe Saturday cinema for the children as well. When we travel around England all the small villages have a little local cinema. Gigs as well possibilities are endless.

Hmmm food for thought...

The Olympic Studio in Barnes? I like the look of that..and I see what you mean about the recording studio!

Regarding the cinema/recording studios in Barnes. I grew up in Barnes and as a teenager managed to see many of the bands who recorded there you can imagine it was a great adventure for a teenager living in Barnes at the time (late 60's early 70's) as Barnes then really was a village really quiet and not much for us to do.

During the War (as my Mum often told me the cinema was an amazing place) she saw Gone With The Wind there several times and many of the popular films of the time. I went past the building the other day and it is an amazing transformation I really must go there myself.

Wow, now I am really jealous! :) Led Zeppelin's first album, which was recorded there, is my favorite music to listen in the car. Being there, at that place and time, is beyond my imagination (not that I ever could). Fantastic things can happen when people try to fulfill their dreams. :)

I'm still dreaming about that philanthropic multi millionaire...

This is a photo of a small theater (from my home town in Slovakia). Reconstruction of this conservation area building finished 10 years ago, financed most probably by government and local council money, now serves to citizens. The building has several venues, coffee-bar and ballroom and its theater is considered the sweetest small-size theater in the country. No multi-millionaires involved.

WOW - that is GORGEOUS!

Oh yes, we love it and the actors and performers too. And the ballroom is gorgeous as well. I had the opportunity to dance there few times in the ball seasons, I love ballroom dancing ;)

I have sent you more links to it.

I would love for the cinema to be reinstated in Hampton, my friend has one close to her in Kensal Green - have a look:

All profits go to charity and they allow alcohol and cake in the cinema, what could be better?!
