Hi everyone. My husband and I and our 2 young children are moving to Percy Road. Could somebody recommend a good GP's practice in the area (particularly for the kids)?
Also can anybody tell me where the local health centre is where I can bring my 6 week old baby to see the Health Visitor for weight checks, developmental checks etc?
We're an Irish family so if there are any other Irish families out there please get in touch! Many thanks. Sarah

We use the Surgery at 71 Broad Lane (see website) and they have looked after us fine. Like any busy surgery I imagine, booking an urgent appointment on the day usually involves five to ten minutes of trying to get through at 08.30 when they open, but we pretty much always manage it. Be interested to see what others say about the other surgeries :-)

We're with the Hampton Medical Center on Priory Road.

I don't think I can possibly suggest it, i ended up having to go to Teddington Memorial Hospital to get something check up. or wait 3 weeks...

I arrange appointments both regular and drop in's in my working life so see a few of the GP's and Hampton Medical Center is right on the bottom of the pile.

I have to agree with Roger on this one, steer clear of Hampton Medical Centre!

I suffer from severe sciatica and recently had a bad bout of it. Took ages to get seen my a GP and trying to get seen was a nightmare, and like Roger I ended up having to go to West Mid A&E to get help.

I finally got seen by HMC and was referred for an MRI scan which I had last week. Was told to contact the surgery to check if the results were in after 5 days.

I phoned them yesterday and the receptionist was useless and I could hear her fluffing about over the phone! She finally found the results so I asked if I could make an appointment to discuss them with a GP to which I was told I would have to phone in the morning to request an emergency appointment? Told her that it was not an emergency in the sense that I had pain relief so I didn't want to take up an emergency space. With this she attempted to do a diagnosis on the phone telling me it looked like my scan was ok so did I still want to see a GP! What the hell, a receptionist giving out an MRI scan diagnosis.

I will be phoning again today to book a standard non emergency appointment with Doctor Hinton (in my view the best doc there along with Doctor Lewis) and look forward to waiting 2 months to see him!

Rant over :)

The Hampton Medical Centre on Priory Road has several doctors (if you can get past the receptionist!) But joking aside I have found that it is best to see different doctors for different things. I would highly reommend Dr Hinton for children, he really listens to you and fully explains the treatment he is giving; in fact he's generally good all round.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I won't be registering with HMC then! Some shocking stories there. Do any of you know what Hampton Hill Medical Centre is like? Also still not sure where I go to see the Health Visitor for the baby. I'm sure I'll find out when I get there. Thanks again!

Well, you know, while I'm aware of the shortcomings I've only ever had one big issue with Hampton Medical Centre when I tried to get an appointment to discuss blood and other tests (would you beleive Gall Stones?) when I got an incredibly long romp around the houses and ended up with me having to do a spot of what the helling.

However after 7 years of living in Hampton I've never had that much of an issue and my kids always get seen on the day no matter what

So yes, there are short comings but I think they're not quite as black as their medical bag is being painted

Hi Sarah,

I live off of Station Road in Hampton Village. We (husband and daughter) go to Hampton Hill Medical Centre -- we registered there as I had heard there were many issues with Hampton Medical Centre.

Even though it is a bit further to go, I would really recommend it. We have had nothing but great care and attention, and while it can be hard to get through early in the morning, I have always gotten an urgent care appointment when necessary. Booking in routine appointments can take some time to organise, but generally all the GPs I have seen have been very attentive and helpful.

So I recommend Hampton Hill Medical Centre highly.

Welcome to Hampton!

Sara

Thanks Sara!

Hampton Hill Medical Centre has been wonderful over several years. Polite, courteous and efficient. Dr Knights, in particular has been very helpful, especially after my accident. I have not been to any other surgeries locally but I really don't think you can not go far wrong with Hampton Hill Medical Centre.

Hi Sarah

If you haven't already found out for your baby weigh ins/Health Visitor etc... you will need to go to the Norman Jackson Childrens Centre, Windmill Road, Hampton Hill 020 8979 0858.

I'm also with Hampton Hill Medical Centre, like any surgery you can wait 3 weeks to get a routine appointment, but they will almost always certainly fit you in if it's an appointment for your children.

Janine

i can certainly vouch for Hampton Hill. We can always get an appointment and you can also do alot on their website like ordering prescriptions.

Took me 5 years to get my MRI on my back, having slipped two discs and been through the whole system.  You have to remember that you do not technically have 'a doctor' at HMC, when I first registered there 13 years ago, yes I did, and now I am lost in the mass of the doctors that come and go. Having complained several times that I was given medication that I shouldn't have been given, let alone on repeat, I managed to get to see one of the partners, who totally agreed with me that I should see just one doctor because of my heart complaint.  Well that was great, that was for 6 months and in that time I didn't go to the doctors, so that just went by the by.  I have heard the medical centre in Hampton Hill is very good, if you want to travel that far.  The only reason I have stuck with HMC is that I can struggle and walk there if I cannot drive, what a sad state all of this is
