Hello James

Yes this is an issue which is being pursued by your local councillors . We have been in touch with the local Safer Neighbourhood Team and received the following response from the Acting Sergeant at 7pm last night

"I have asked the team to pay attention to the area over the next few days. I am also in the process of requesting a camera to be placed in Oldfield Rd to capture the behaviour of the moped riders. If succesful this will allow me to identify the riders and any offences with a view to issuing them warnings under Sec 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002. I will update you accordingly regarding the camera once I've had a response to my request.

Sec 59 allows police to issue a warning if there are reasonable grounds for believing that a motor vehicle is being used on any occasion in a manner which  contravenes section 3 or 34 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. These reasonable grounds can be based on information provided by local residents, ideally in a statement. Therefore it is important that those witnessing the events try and obtain the dates and times of any incidents, the clothing worn by the riders, in particular descriptions of crash helmets and the registration number of the moped. If these are fed back to me I can then attempt to identify the riders and warn them of their behaviour."
So it's first steps, at the moment. Identify and issue warnings which isn't perhaps the strong hand of the law which many people want but once this procedure has been followed then it will be easier to bring more forceful sanctions into play.

From the Richmond Borough Metropolitan Police Service:

"1 moped seized under Op Reclaim by Team B officers in Hampton following reports of anti social behaviour by the riders"

The other evening I just missed being poleaxed by one of these boys, I was crossing Percy Road when one came round the corner, leg out stretched, almost out of control and wobbling all over the road as he wound his sewing machine up in first gear, WOW! did he look and sound good?...and two seconds later his little friend with a passenger did the same. I hope they get the chance to grow up.

We also refer to them as sewing machines....I watch them in the knowledge that a large percentage of fatal road accidents are motorcyclists doing stupid things....so I too hope they get the chance to grow up. Chances are they might not.

Hello all,

First post here and unfortunately it's a rant… it seems these kids are at it again on their hair dryers with wheels, just last night I saw them whizzing up and down Percy Road/Oldfield Road and dodging the barriers on the crossing. Luckily they're unlikely to de-rail a train and they’ll come off worse if the worst does happen, but still, it’s not a pleasant experience for the train operator or the people living in the area.

Does anyone know if the police are still pursuing these idiots?

Will double check with the PCSO's when they pop in.

The police have followed up and are rounding up the culprits! In order to catch them, please let them know the colours of the bikes you see and times.  It is likely that one person has been tinkering with the bikes and testing them out, without helmet, by doing quick test runs.

Hello, this is Hampton-wide problem. We have motor scooters, with their silencers quite obviously removed, speeding down the Hanworth Road creating a deafening noise at all hours. Today, I witnessed four on the Uxbridge Road dangerously overtaking on a bend by Windmill Road, Hampton Hill. Please could the police monitor Hampton North too. It's an absolute nightmare.

If you can take their registration numbers and give that with a description of the riders to the local police you might find they happen to be the same morons that are plaguing everyone.  I was in Richmond the other day, first I heard the irritating noise and then into sight came the same pathetic children that pollute Hampton, tearing through the high street, more interested in watching themselves in the shop windows than where they were going.

The corner of Hanworth Road and Loxley road seems to be a favourite spot for them this week. That said, I don't want to include the young man who has got a nice new vespa-type-thing with silencer and helmet....
