Hi alan. I see that you are leaving comments for all new members as they arrive. This is a nice idea but is it the best way to recruit volunteers for Linden Hall? Won't it be better just to do one post that everyone can see and leave it at that unless you have some special reason for thinking that a new member might be interested in volunteering?

I am just a little worried that for the new members it is a bit like arriving at a party and the first thing someone asks you is if you might be prepared to help with the washing-up when the party finishes. It is not an unreasonable request but not necessarily the first interaction you expect with a group of people you have not met yet :-)

well, it depends a bit on the context. How is the situation in relation to volunteers? Are things OK but a few more would always help? Or is there a particular new or increased need? I think the best way of doing it would be if there was a particular focus, e.g. if you needed a few extra people for a Xmas-related event, you could post about that and that might be a good way for people to start. Or if the situation is more serious and you are going to have to stop doing something unless you get more volunteers, then you could base the post around that. So that would be my suggestion - find a specific focus and then post based on that! Hope it works :-)
