Now it’s third great year, Hampton Cheese Week runs from 3rd to 10th May 2014. Started in 2012 by Steve Parker, owner of The Cheese and Wine Company in Hampton Village, Hampton Cheese Week is a celebration of all things cheesy running for one week and featuring a range of demonstrations, activities and competitions for all the family.
The week kicks off with a Cheesemaking Demonstration on the pavement outside The Cheese and Wine Company by Michaela Edge of Norbury Park Farm Cheeses. Michaela makes Norbury Blue and Dirty Vicar and will be showing children and adults alike how cheese in made, giving children an opportunity to stir the curds and ladle them into moulds. Within one hour, the audience will be able to see the finished cheese for themselves.
On the same day, Saturday 3rd May, Hampton Cheese Cookery Competition will be launched with customers being invited to make their own cheese based recipes and enter them for judging one week later. The only criteria for entry is that cheese used in the recipe must have been bought from The Cheese and Wine Company.
A key feature of Hampton Cheese Week will be the annual Hampton Cheese Awards, with customers being invited to judge which cheeses they like best, with rounds one and two being held during the week and the Grand Final on Saturday 10th May at The Cheese and Wine Company. Last year’s winner was Tunworth from Hampshire with Cornish Blue also featuring in the prize winners.
Other activities during Hampton Cheese Week include….
Other businesses in Hampton Village will also be participating in Hampton Cheese Week including Shaun’s Quality Meats, Squiffys at The Jolly Coopers, Marini’s Fish & Chips, Taste Hampton, The Railway Bell, all of whom will be featuring cheesy specials through the week.
